This DMDB generated list is based on the first 1000 songs to top the Australian charts from 1940-2013. To create this list, #1 songs prior to 1949 were eliminated because those were monthly charts instead of weekly charts. All #1 songs from 1949-2013 were ranked first by number of weeks spent at #1. Tiebreakers were determined by which songs had the highest points in Dave’s Music Database.
